State Superintendent Mo Green will spend time in Burke County on Oct. 22, starting at Mountain View Elementary School from 1:50-4 p.m. and then Patton High School at 5:30 p.m. for a community event.
State Superintendent Mo Green will visit Burke County Public Schools in about a week as part of the state’s rollout of a new strategic plan.
Green will be in the county on Oct. 22, starting at Mountain View Elementary School from 1:50 to 4 p.m. and at Patton High School for a community event starting at 5:30 p.m., according to a tentative schedule.
At Mountain View, he will tour the dual language classrooms, help with the afternoon car rider line, meet with YMCA officials in the 21st Grant program and hear from district leaders on the system’s balanced instruction initiative that focuses on less screen time, said Cheryl Shuffler, public information officer for Burke County Public Schools.
The community event at Patton High School will feature Green talking about the state’s new strategic education plan.
The five-year strategic plan was developed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education built from input from thousands of educators, students, parents and community members through Superintendent Green’s “Mo Wants to Know†listening tour, according to information from both departments. Green made a stop in Lenoir in March as part of his “Mo Wants to Know†tour.
It is the first joint plan between the State Board of Education and the state superintendent. The Board of Education approved the plan in a unanimous vote on Aug. 7, according to the information. It’s goal is to make the state’s schools the best in the nation, the information says.
According to the departments, the plan’s strategic implementation includes:
110 specific actions aligned with NCDPI’s mission and organized across eight focus areas.
Partnership approach by creating networks with schools, including traditional public, charter, regional and lab schools, businesses, philanthropies and community organizations.
Continuous monitoring through quarterly progress reports and data-driven adjustments.
Evidence-based strategies grounded in research and proven practices.
On Thursday, Oct. 23, Green will be in Bryson City in Swain County. The following week, he will be in Lumberton and Chapel Hill. He also will hold a virtual Zoom meeting on Monday, Nov. 3, starting at 5:30 p.m.
